Hargita Classic route is presenting the most popular attractions of Madarasi Hargita, leading you from the spectacular Szökő Waterfall to the highest peak of the mountain.
One of the main destinations of the tour is the highest point of the Harghita mountain range, the Madarasi Hargita peak. The peak called ‘the Székelys’s holy mountain’ offers a beautiful view of surrounding mountains. In clear weather almost the entire line of the Southern Carpathians can be seen.
The spring waters coming from the southern side of Harghita Madaras are slowly running down and soaking up the soil, creating a special mire-peat habitat. A significant number of species remained from ice age are living in them. Their survival was supported by the cool climate of the Harghita Mountains. Most of them are introduced on the “red list” of protected plants. Where the hillside descends significantly, the water reappears and creates a waterfall known as the Szökő Waterfall.
